What is IMUCET?

IMUCET  Indian Maritime University conducts a common entrance test to get admission into various courses related to the marine industry and merchant navy such as DNS, B.Sc, B.Tech, M.Tech, and other courses offered at Indian Maritime University. If you want to join the Merchant Navy, this is a compulsory test that you need to go through. IMU CET Eligibility Criteria

IMU CET has yet to declare the new IMUCET 2025 Eligibility, but until it is released students can take guidance from IMU CET Eligibility Criteria. There are very unlikely any changes in the new IMU CET 2025 eligibility, still, it is IMU, and any new circular can be released anytime.

  • Students must have PCM in Class 12th with a percentage above 60% in PCM. 
  • Candidates must have above 50% in English in either 10th or 12th.

    • General-25 Years 
    • OBC (NCL):- 28 Years
    • SC/ST:- 30 Years
  • Females
    • General:- 27 Years
    • OBC (NCL):- 30 Years
    • SC/ST:- 32 Years
Relaxation
  • Apart from age, candidates from SC/ST have a 5% relaxation in PCM Marks only (not in English).
  • Scheduled Tribe candidates from Lakshadweep or Andaman & Nicobar Islands, with native parents, get a 5% English marks relaxation.

How to Fill IMUCET Application

IMU CET is a 3-hour test for which you need to fill out the application form first and foremost when the IMU CET Application form goes live. To fill out the application form for IMU CET you should be a 12th Passout, only then you are eligible for IMU CET.

STEP 1 :- Fill out the Application form

CLICK HERE to get notified when the IMU CET application form goes live. The first step is to fill out the form without any errors as any mismatch of information can get you forfeit from the exam. 

Documents required to fill the form

  1. Scanned Photo of Face and Signature
  2. Marksheet of Class 10th and 12th
  3. Caste Certificate if any. 
  4. Any other relevant Certificate. 

Once you fill in the necessary details, then you need to complete the payment.

 

STEP 2:- Payment

Candidates filling out the IMU CET application form will have to pay the respective IMU CET application fee depending upon the category they belong to as shown in the table below:

STEP 3:- Download Admit Card

A few days prior to your exams you will receive your admit card you need to keep secure as it will have your registration number and User ID that will be asked for in the examination hall. 

IMU CET Exam Dates

Generally, IMU CET happens twice a year, however, in 2024 IMU decided not to conduct the December batch of IMU CET. So, we will take a better look at the important months of this year for IMU CET.

IMU CET Exam Pattern

The IMU CET exam pattern has changed quite a lot in a few years. The new approach is to check the base concept of the candidates. The exam pattern consists of multiple-choice questions covering different topics and subjects from Mathematics to English and Physics.

IMUCET Preparation Tips

  1. Don’t Underestimate General Aptitude

With 40 questions carrying significant weight (40 marks), the General Aptitude section is crucial. Practice regularly using resources available on websites like https://www.indiabix.com/. A solid foundation here can significantly boost your overall score.

  • Focus on Physics and Maths:

Focus on Physics and Maths as each carries 100 marks (50-50). Prioritize understanding key concepts and practicing problems. Efficient time management in these sections is key to good rank. 

  • Ace the Easy Sections first in the IMU CET Exam

Chemistry, English, and General Knowledge often contain straightforward, direct questions. Utilize this to your advantage by ensuring accuracy and saving time for the more time-consuming sections.

  • Start with your Strongest Subject

Begin the exam with your strongest subject, building confidence from the start. Maintain a positive mindset throughout and don’t let confidence wane. Your initial success can set the tone for the entire examination.

  • Mock Test is the Key for IMU CET

IMU will release the admit card a week or two before IMU CET. Candidates need to download the admit card from the website of IMU with their login and credentials. Details regarding the exam date, timings, guidelines, and more are released through the IMU CET admit card. 

You will receive mail from IMU regarding the release of the IMU admit card.

IMUCET Results

After taking the exam you need to wait for the result of the IMU CET. IMU will upload the results on their site that you need to download after logging in to the site. IMU will publish the rank card that candidates can download from the website. The only step remaining is to register for the counseling process. 

IMUCET Counseling

After the declaration of results IMU conducts IMU Counseling for admission in 6 campuses of IMU. The candidates have to register for IMU Counseling online by paying fees of ₹10,000. After this candidates need to select the college and course according to the allotted list.

Frequently Asked Questions regarding IMU CET

IMU CET is a common entrance test to get entry in all kinds of courses at Indian Maritime University. Apart from that if anyone wants to join Merchant Navy then also they have to clear IMU CET.

To get into Indian Maritime University, you need to clear the common entrance test i.e. IMU CET which is a common test for various, graduate and post-graduate courses in IMU.

IMU CET is a moderate-level exam with questions coming from the Class 11 and Class 12th syllabus.

Candidates who have cleared Class 12th with more than 60% in PCM and more than 50% either in 10th or 12th are eligible for IMU CET.

IMU CET used to be held twice a year but now only a May-July batch occurs for the IMU CET. So, don’t wait for the February batch if your goal is Merchant Navy. 

Instead of pass or fail there are ranks that are being allotted to the candidates and based on those ranks, candidates can get into their colleges.

IMU CET is a computer-based online test that candidates need to take from the selected centers across India.

Yes, even girls can apply for IMU CET and join the Merchant Navy. Even many shipping companies are promoting female candidates to join the Merchant Navy these days.
