Course Description | The 2nd Mate Function course is aimed at providing a cadet with an adequate amount of training for him/her to be prepared to take the 2nd Mate Certificate of Competency Examination. The course is designed in a way that it meets the necessary STCW and IMO StandardsThe course is taught via physical classes. E-Learning must be completed on the DG Shipping E-Learning website at home during non-class hours. |

This course applies only to DNS cadets who have completed the required sea time. BSc cadets are exempted from completing this course.
This is a preparatory course for the 2nd Mate COC Examination. The 2nd Mate Function Course Fees is usually on the higher side as it is a 4 Month Duration.
2.1:- 2nd Mate Foundation Course Eligibility:

2.2:- 2nd Mate Foundation Course Syllabus:
Function 1: Navigation at Operational Level
- Terrestrial and Coastal Navigation
- Celestial Navigation
- Meteorology
- Bridge Watchkeeping, Emergencies, and BRM
- Signals and Communications
Function 2: Cargo Handling and Stowage at Operational Level
- Cargo Handling and Stowage
- Inspect and Report defects and damages to cargo spaces, hatch cover, and Ballast Tank
Function 3: Controlling the Operation of the Ship and Care for Persons on Board at the Operational Level

- Stability
- Ship safety and Environmental protection and monitor compliance with registrations
3. Advanced STCW & Modular Courses
These courses apply to both B.Sc and DNS Cadets.
- This Course is taught Via Physical classes
- This Course Includes All The Practicals also (Full 5 Yrs Validity Single Certificate will be issued as per DGS Latest Orders)
- Practicals are also included
As per D.G. Shipping Orders, This Course will be Completed in THREE Mandatory Steps:-
- You will get 3 Attempts to Clear the DGS Exit Exam ONLINE, failing which the course at (Step No.2) will have to be done again, by Rebooking.

4. STCW EXIT EXAMÂ
- The exit exam will be conducted at the examination hall of the MTI On Completion immediately after the completion of the course (same Day),
- Candidates will Have to appear for the 1st Attempt Exam without fail, if they DO NOT appear, they may not be allowed to appear Later, as per DGS Rule and a Certificate will not be issued.

5. 2nd Mate Simulator Courses
As the name suggests, these courses are designed to provide real-time experiences of various shipboard equipments
The Simulator Systems need to be certified and should be built per the standards set by STCW
These Courses do not have an Exit Exam except for the GMDSS Course.
