1. Marine Engineering And Research Institute (IMU Kolkata/DMET)
Indian Maritime University, Kolkata is a government institution that selects its students as per ranking in the IMU CET Exams. Most Marine Engineering college students are required to clear an entrance exam before enrolling themselves in a maritime institute. IMU Kolkata has a reputation for being one of the most acclaimed Marine engineering colleges in India. Along with that, the institution also has a very strong network of alumni spread far and wide, serving in key positions throughout the shipping industry.
The campus provides its students with a dynamic learning experience with many extra-curricular activities. The top recruiters at the institution are- NYK, Anglo-Eastern Ship Management, Chevron Corporation, Mediterranean Shipping Company SA, Scorpio Marine Management, Laurel Ship Management Pte. Ltd., Thome Ship Management, Torm Shipping, Mitsui O.S.K. Lines, OMCI shipping, MPI offshore, etc.

2. Tolani Maritime Institute
Tolani Maritime Institute located in Pune, Maharashtra is a private institution approved by DG Shipping. It is one of the largest maritime educational centers offering a Btech in Marine Engineering. The Marine Engineering degree program at TMI has been awarded Grade A1 by ClassNK in the Comprehensive Inspection Programme of DG Shipping. The Grade achieved by TMI is a result of their excellent placement record, great infrastructure, and highly qualified and experienced faculty.
The institute conducts its own entrance examination called TMISAT, described above in the entrance exam section. Once the candidates have appeared for IMU CET they are still required to appear for TMISAT.
The institute also has its own shipping company and has tie-ups with the following companies as recruiters- Anglo-Eastern Ship Management, Mediterranean Shipping Company SA, Chevron, B W Shipping, Fleet Management, Scorpio Marine Management, Maersk, Stena, Wilhelmsen ship management, Teekay tankers, etc.
The institute charges a fee of INR 22 Lakhs, for this course. Keeping in mind the high fees charged by the institute, they put the same amount of effort into placing their students in the best companies.

3. International Maritime Institute (Sponsorship with MSC)
International Maritime Institute located in Noida, Uttar Pradesh is a private institution approved by DG Shipping. IMI is the only maritime institute in North India amongst many B tech marine engineering colleges in India that conducts this 4-year degree course affiliated with Indian Maritime University (IMU) Chennai. This course is duly recognized by AICTE.
Candidates must clear the IMU-CET examination held at the All India level. During counseling, the Institutes are allotted based on the merit in IMU-CET and candidates’ preferences.
International Maritime Institute has got tie-up with various premier shipping companies like MSC. The B Tech cadets are continuously evaluated/assessed during their training at IMI. Details of the deserving cadets are sent to various shipping companies. The shipping company shortlists the candidates for the sponsorship exams, basis the company’s eligibility criteria and onboard training slots available.
4. AMET University (Sponsorship with MAERSK)
India’s first Maritime Deemed to be University for maritime-related education, training, and research. The one and only University from India to be a member of the International Association of Maritime Universities. The International Association of Maritime Universities headquartered in Tokyo, Japan has been conducting PIMET Ranking and listed AMET as one of the top FIVE Maritime Institutions in the World for the past FOUR consecutive years. AMET University located in Chennai, Tamil Nadu is a private institution approved by DG Shipping.
Candidates must clear the IMU-CET examination held at the All India level as per shipping rule although this university is not any link with Indian Maritime University.
Top Graduate Marine Engineering Colleges in India
1. Anglo-Eastern Maritime Academy
It is considered the best training institute today and has its own shipping company. It is located in Karjat, Maharashtra. The curriculum includes 2 semesters of classroom training, 4 months each. This is followed by 4 months of onboard training. This college does not own its shipping company but is considered one the finest for the training of GME cadets. It is located in Bogda, Goa. The college is reputed for taking care of its cadets, overall well-being. Many reputed shipping companies come here for placements. The course fees here are close to 6.58 lakh rupees. 3. Great Eastern Institute of Maritime Studies
Great Eastern Institute of Maritime Studies or GEIMS is a part of the Great Eastern Group, an Indian Shipping company. It is located in Lonavla, Maharashtra. The college has got great placements, but since the company is Indian, the salaries paid in Great Eastern are in Indian currency. The total fee is around 5.41 lakh rupees. Samundra Institute of Maritime Studies (SIMS) is located in Mumbai, Maharashtra. The college has the best training facilities and infrastructure with an amazing faculty. Shipping Corporation of India Maritime Training Institute (SCIMTI) is located in Mumbai, Maharashtra. The college is newly established and is part of an Indian Shipping Company, thus, the salary is in Indian Currency and the waiting period after placement is high.

The Diploma in Marine Engineering (DME) is a two-year, all-residential pre-sea training programme that prepares students to serve as Marine Engineers on National and International Merchant Ships.

My son did graduation in mechanical engineering in 2020 then carona came he started preparation. For CDs and afcat in written he got good marks but conference out twice now no chance left due to his age he completed his 25 yrs of age in 31 March 2023 now he can apply for mechanical engineering in merchant navy.pls reply
